Mexican animation has an excellent showcase at the Annecy Festival. For the IMCINE (Mexican Institute of Cinematography), it is a source of pride and an opportunity to show the advances that have been made in the country in this genre so dear to us.

The work of IMCINE is present in all areas of the Mexican film industry. The most recognizable one is production; in 2022 the Institute participated in 46% of the 258 feature films completed or in the post-production phase. Of these, 2.5% of the feature films and 7% of the shorts were animations. However, even with these numbers, animated shorts and features made up 22% of the screenings of Mexican films abroad. In fact, of the 10 most screened films abroad last year, 4 were animated short films, the most viewed one being Uncle by Juan Medina.

Animation has given and continues to give us great surprises and satisfaction. Last year animations made up half of all films for children and teens, the audience of the future. These are: Eagle and Jaguar, Legendary Warriors directed by Mike R. Ortiz, The Legend of the Chaneques by Marvick Núñez, Save the Tree by Iker Álvarez and Haizea Pastor, Uma & Haggen by Benito Fernández and Batman Azteca Clash of Empires by Juan José Meza which is in postproduction — it will be shown as a preview in Annecy.

Mexican animation takes many forms, all of which are on display in Annecy: shorts, feature films, series episodes, commissioned films and works-in-progress. There are great animation artists and young talents; juries, speakers in master classes, and representatives of all animation techniques. Annecy is a lively Mexican party. Viva Mexico, viva le Festival!
