Cate Blanchett to Discuss Displacement of Refugees

VERDICT: The Australian actress and producer is the Goodwill Ambassador for the UN Refugee Agency.

Renowned actress Cate Blanchett will be on hand today, May 20 at 9:30 a.m. at the Plage des Palmes, for a special discussion of Displacement – Cinematic Perspectives. The Australian actress and producer has been the Goodwill Ambassador for the UN Refugee Agency, UNHCR, since 2016.

Moderated by journalist Hadley Gamble, the discussion will include Princess Grace Award Winner and IEFTA selected filmmaker Daniela Repas as well as Refugee Voices in Film filmmaker Barat Ali Batoor. This moderated discussion will shed light on the impactful role of cinema in depicting and confronting the complexities of displacement. Along with IEFTA and UNHCR, the event is co-hosted by the Arab Cinema Center.

Another part of the IEFTA program at Cannes is Refuge Voices in Film. This 7th edition features three short films produced through a UNHCR and YouTube collaboration for World Refugees Day, and three works in progress that focus on changing perspectives.
