Ascona-Locarno is a decidedly green destination.

To preserve the stunning landscape of the Ascona-Locarno region, the area is served by an extensive network of public transportation, a comprehensive bike-sharing system, and numerous cable cars, allowing visitors to explore the territory in an eco-friendly way. Getting here is simple: enjoy your journey from the start by avoiding stress and traffic jams using the numerous connections offered by Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) and the Gotthard Train service while enjoying breathtaking views along the way.

Once you arrive in Ticino, staying at hotels, youth hostels, and campsites that are partners of the Ticino Ticket project allows you to travel freely throughout the region using all public transportation. Additionally, the Ticino Ticket offers various discounts at partner tourist attractions.

Ascona-Locarno offers alternative accommodations such as alpine huts, tipi, hanging tents, yurts, glamping sites, forest hammocks, beds under the stars and the recent “Albergo diffuso” (scattered hotel) in Corippo. These options let you discover the region’s authenticity by staying in original and eco-friendly lodgings, reconnecting with the surrounding nature. Environmental respect is also found on the plate: many restaurants and grottos choose to use local and seasonal products from local farmers to create delicious and sustainable menus. Local products are also featured in the markets and food events that animate the region year-round, including festivals and fairs where you can taste and purchase zero-kilometer products.

In the Ascona-Locarno region, you can participate in various activities to discover traditional agricultural practices through the Agriesperienze project, which offers authentic experiences for those who want to visit farms, wineries, and other agricultural settings, learning cultivation, processing, and production techniques of local products, with the opportunity to taste them and, for the more adventurous, participate in various agricultural activities.

Our region is committed not only to the environment but also to social projects. Various tourism partners work to make accommodations and activities accessible to people with disabilities, with the goal of creating a Ticino that is accessible to everyone. Social sustainability is also promoted through educational and artistic activities for young people of all ages, such as the Academies, Base Camp, Locarno Kids, and the Atelier du Futur. Other notable social projects include “Le strade Fiorite di Ascona,” a collaboration between the Borgo di Ascona merchants and the Fondazione Diamante, and the “Cultura inclusiva” initiative, a collaboration between the Locarno Film Festival and Pro Infirmis.
