The special feature of Lake Maggiore is that it is accessible practically everywhere. There are an incredible number of beaches, lidos and bathing spots along the lakeshore. Some are accessible free of charge; others require a fee – but all are beautiful.

Lake Maggiore is the perfect place to escape the heat, and for active people, it offers various water sports. The lake and air currents fluctuate throughout the day, offering optimal conditions for aquatic pursuits. Mornings bring calm waters ideal for activities such as stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) and sports involving artificial waves like wakeboarding or wake surfing. As the afternoon progresses and winds pick up, it becomes an opportune time for enthusiasts to engage in windsurfing.
When the heat becomes overwhelming and the lake’s waters are no longer enough, the rivers and valleys are ready to welcome you. The region’s numerous valleys, with their emerald-colored rivers, offer a refreshing escape. Valleys such as the Valle Verzasca and the Vallemaggia feature numerous spots where the rivers form pure, energizing and natural pools.

With its numerous valleys and rivers, Ascona-Locarno is a true paradise for those passionate about canyoning. Among the most renowned spots for this discipline are Centovalli, Valle Verzasca, and Vallemaggia.

The Verzasca River is particularly appealing to adrenaline seekers. Its gorges are globally recognized as one of the best places for kayaking. The river’s imposing boulders, swift rapids, challenging stretches, and emerald-clear waters make Verzasca a highly sought-after destination for experienced and daring kayakers.

However, due to their nature, river courses can also conceal dangers even for the most skilled individuals. Their torrential character, frigid waters, slippery rocks, strong currents, whirlpools, waterfalls, and sudden storms causing rapid water level rises are all hazards that should not be underestimated. Prudence and common sense are essential! For more information and regulations regarding river safety, please visit the cantonal website at: www.ti.ch/fiumi
The distinctive mountainous landscape also provides other elevated alternatives. Here, you’ll discover alpine lakes of emerald green or deep blue, gracefully nestled between the mountains. These bodies of water reflect the light, transforming the landscape into a breathtaking panorama.

Most of these lakes were formed by the melting of glaciers thousands of years ago. Some are easy to reach by car, aerial cableway, or footpath, while others require a great deal of effort to reach. Regardless of the journey, the reward is the sheer exhilaration and sense of freedom that comes from standing before these pristine waters.
