The acting president of RTVE, Concepción Cascajosa, and the San Sebastian International Film Festival director, José Luis Rebordinos, signed an agreement to strengthen their almost two-decade-long collaboration. RTVE will be the official sponsor of the film festival for the next three editions. RTVE’s involvement in the festival will be enhanced with a third gala, and RTVE will expand its coverage of the event in its programming.
After the signing, Concepción Cascajosa pointed out the importance of the relationship “because it deepens RTVE’s commitment to Spanish cinema; reinforces lines of work such as awards, recognitions and places for reflection; and is part of the Public Service mandate that the Corporation has.”
Luis Rebordinos stated that “for the San Sebastián Festival, the link with public television is key and, at the same time, represents a natural alliance: we share many objectives and, among them, perhaps the most important, support for Spanish cinema”.
The agreement, which will run for three years from 2024 to 2026, guarantees the stability of this partnership. Previous agreements were renewed annually. Starting from this edition, there will be a third RTVE gala and the two regular ones. RTVE will benefit from the San Sebastian showcase to premiere some of the films in which the company has participated, as was the case last year with “La ternura” and “Chinas.”
It also extends RTVE’s commitment to reporting the festival’s news through all its media. RTVE’s film-related programs will be broadcast from a dedicated tent that the corporation will set up in San Sebastian for the special event. Additionally, there will be special programming by RNE and live broadcasts from the city for Telediario’s Culture section as part of the festival.” In addition, the Opening and Closing Galas, as well as the Donostia Awards’, will be broadcast. La 2 and Canal 24 horas will broadcast a live daily news program covering the Festival information. RTVE Play will also provide broad coverage of all the Festival’s activities. Special attention will also be paid to the Equality Observatory promoted by RTVE within the framework of the Festival.
RTVE, official sponsor of the San Sebastian Festival since 2005, caps its participation in the event with the presentation of the Another Look Award, created to support films that address issues related to the reality of women. This year marks the 18th edition of the award, which will be presented at the closing gala.
The Festival takes place September 20 – 24
