Stockfish Celebrates 10th Anniversary

VERDICT: Film and iIndustry festival takes place at Bíó Paradís, Reykjavik, Iceland, April 4-14

Stockfish Film and Industry Festival announces its 10th anniversary celebration. To mark the occasion, Stockfish is offering free admission to this year’s festivities. The festival offers a diverse program for professionals in the industry. Emphasis is placed on presenting prize-winning films from various countries and nations, and the audience is invited to participate in open discussions with the filmmakers.

“We want to fill the cinema halls with curious people, young, middle-aged and old, of all genders and from all around the world. People who appreciate good, well-told stories, spectacular pictorial history lessness, romance, anguish or just everyday tragedy or joy.” states Hrönn Kristinsdóttir, Artistic Director.

Honorary Awards
This year’s honorary award for contribution to international cinema goes to Lynne Ramsay, and the honorary award for domestic film industry is awarded to Laufey Guðjónsdóttir and the honorary award for domestic film industry to Laufey Guðjónsdóttir.

Danish Cinema in the spotlight
The Stockfish Film and Industry Festival is featuring several Danish films in its program, including Martin Zandvliet’s ‘Toves værelse’ (Tove’s Room) and Isabella Eklöf’s ‘Kalak’, along with Ulaa Salim’s ‘Eternal’, the opening film of the festival is a Danish/Icelandic production. “We greatly appreciate the power of collaboration, innovation, and originality that Stockfish has managed to create and hope that the festival will be driven by the same power in the future” says Carolina Salas, Managing Director. The Guest of Honor

Lynne Ramsay, a Scottish director, screenwriter, producer, and cinematographer, is the guest of honour at the festival. Her films explore the lives of children and young people, with themes such as grief, guilt, death, and its aftermath. The focus of her films is on visual presentation, music, and soundscapes to create the story, rather than dialogue or narration. Lynne has been nominated for a BAFTA Award, a British Independent Film Award for Directing, and has won a Writer’s Guild of Great Britain Award for Screenplay, among other awards. Stockfish will screen three of Lynne’s films in her honour and host an Open Talk at the festival, where the audience can ask questions.

The Eva Maria Daniels Award for Outstanding Filmmaking

The Eva Maria Daniels Award for Excellence in Filmmaking is a new award presented l to up-and-coming filmmakers. The award is given in memory of renowned Icelandic filmmaker and producer Eva María Daniels, who passed away last June after a difficult battle with cancer. In collaboration with her husband and son, the festival hopes to honor her legacy by recognizing and encouraging emerging talents in the film industry. Sprettfiskur (Shortfish) short film competition receives the award in memory of Eva’s achievements and her continued contribution to the next wave of filmmakers in Iceland. The goal of the competition is to draw attention to aspiring and versatile filmmakers and encourage future achievements with prizes that lay the foundation for the next project. The contenders will compete in four categories and the rewards are supported by KUKL Rental and the Icelandic broadcaster RÚV. Winners will be included in RÚV VOD this year.

Stockfish Film Festival & Industry Days is a film and conference festival for professionals in the film industry and is held in Bíó Paradís in cooperation with all professional associations in the film industry in Iceland. Stockfish’s goal is to serve the community from which the festival springs, promote and enrich film culture in Iceland year-round, and be a lever for the Icelandic film industry both abroad and domestically.
